Hello Friends!
Over the last 9 months Independent Kentucky has worked to develop a network reaching all corners of the great Commonwealth of Kentucky. We have partnered with allies, and built coalitions through the hard work and determination of our members and friends. This organization like many others has been built off the hard work and passion of volunteers, and the pockets of the founders for the love of a common cause…Kentucky!!!
Independent Kentucky holds its own sovereignty like any independent organization, but it’s our relationships with other states and active leaders around the country that make us so effective within the movement. Our Friends at Independentvoting.org and CUIP have led Independent organizing for the last 30 years and pioneered the standard for rallying Independent support. This political phenomenon has the nation taking notice, and Independents are taking full advantage of the attention. CNN witnessed our struggles and Independent Kentucky made national news, now we must build off that momentum to sustain our collective voice and bring to light the issues that plague this State’s forward progress.
To move forward we must place one foot in front of the other and identify what we as Kentuckians want. We don’t need to argue over smaller or larger government but demand a more proficient body leading this country and state!

WLKY, Metro Councilman George Unseld Dies - Politics News Story - WLKY Louisville, is reporting that Vickie Welch who is a nurse, treated Unseld until emergency crews arrived.
My sources tell me that Welch yelled for someone to do CPR while she kept pressure on the bleeding area and that Councilman James Peden was the one applying CPR.
As you can see details are sketchy right now.

Independent Voting in Kentucky Primaries: Senate Bill 53
During the past three decades, the issue of allowing independent voters to cast votes in party primaries has been introduced in several sessions of the Kentucky General Assembly.
In Kentucky, the General Assembly has the power to decide whether independent voters may participate in primaries. The Kentucky Constitution is silent regarding the primary nomination process of the general election. Section 153 of the Kentucky Constitution gives the General Assembly power to provide the manner of voting by rule of general law.
Senate Bill 53, a bill that would have allowed independents to vote in party primaries, was passed by the Kentucky Senate in 2010. This was the first time such a measure passed a chamber of the Kentucky General Assembly.

CNN aired a story about Independent Kentucky on Wednesday, February 3rd at 8:00 PM on the Campbell Brown show. The story was about the battle of Senate Bill 53, a bill that would allow semi-open primaries in Kentucky. Semi-open primaries are NOT a free-for-all. Democrats and Republicans would still only be allowed to vote in their own primaries. This bill would allow a registered Independent voter to pick a party and participate in the selection process.
Independent Kentucky was contacted by CNN about a week ago when they saw the work being done in Kentucky. CNN wanted to run a piece on Independent Kentucky and how they've rallied people together to support Senate Bill 53. They came to Kentucky for the Senate floor vote on SB 53 and to the Independent Kentucky monthly meeting. Chairman of Independent Kentucky, Michael P. W. Lewis, was followed around all day in the capitol and interviewed about his experience. CNN has allowed Independent Kentucky to link the story on their website:

Before you start to worry, Independent Kentucky meeting will be held Thursday June 24th!
We received some emails from worried friends that we did not have a June meeting. We know they are normally the first Tuesday of every month; however we had to cancel May because of commitments to the Chairman’s and board meetings, June's was moved back because of community events. There have been some request to change the meetings to Thursday’s and this will be voted on at July’s meeting which is scheduled for Thursday July 8th.
